IHS Markit is expanding its use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud infrastructure provider.
The data analytics and financial services provider has an existing presence within AWS and, under the agreement, it will move the majority of its data processing infrastructure, corporate platforms, and end-user applications and services out of its data centres to AWS to accelerate innovation and improve resiliency.
It will also migrate hundreds of additional applications over the next three years.
An IHS Markit spokesperson tells SLT: 鈥淭he move to the cloud allows for accelerated innovation by being able to identify and connect more unique insights in one place and increased productivity by spending less time finding, downloading and importing data. It will also allow us to improved resiliency, scalability and elasticity of our infrastructure.鈥
Additionally, IHS Markit will utilise AWS鈥 services such as machine learning, analytics, database, containers, serverless, storage, and security to drive innovation and deliver new solutions to its customers.
It will leverage VMware Cloud on AWS, enabling IHS Markit to use the same VMware technologies to manage its on-premises data centre environments and its AWS infrastructure.
Yaacov Mutnikas, chief technology officer and chief data scientist at IHS Markit, says: 鈥淭hrough the collaboration with AWS, we will be able to analyse global data faster, giving companies an integrated view into the global economy and sectors, and provide the next generation of innovative, customer-focused solutions.鈥
Mike Clayville, vice president, Worldwide Commercial Sales at AWS, adds: 鈥淭he breadth and depth of AWS鈥檚 portfolio, including our machine learning and analytics services, will enable IHS Markit to gain greater insights from data and expand their global reach by serving more clients worldwide."
