Paul departs BBVA
23 April 2025 UK

John Paul has departed his position as director of credit repo trading at BBVA after spending more than five years with the firm.
Following five decades in repo, Paul has decided to retire and spend more time with his family.
Prior to BBVA, he spent nine years in repo sales and trading at Mizuho, where he expanded the repo sales capability to increase volumes and revenue with existing customers while introducing new accounts.
Paul started as a messenger at 16 years, hand delivering letters around the city, before moving on to work in the back office for Bear Stearns, conducting repo settlements.
He then graduated to the repo desk from there and stayed at the company for 14 years, serving as director of repo trading and later assuming a sales and trading role.
Reflecting on his career, Paul comments: “I’ve witnessed and successfully navigated market events such as the long-term capital collapse, the Asian financial crisis, the dot-com bubble, the Russian crisis, and Covid-19.
“Immediate plans are to spend more time with family and at my place on the coast, where I am refurbishing a house.â€
